Jo Pedlar hatha yoga teacher in yoga pose practicing pranayama, mindfulness & meditation

Welcome to Sole yoga

Hello, my name is Jo.

I originally felt drawn to yoga because of an interest in ancient civilisations and the knowledge they held. In my very first yoga class the teacher said “to commit yourself to yoga is the best type of life insurance you can buy” and that’s when my fascination with yoga began.

As I practiced more I learnt about some of the incredible benefits yoga has to offer. Yoga has taught me so much, on and off the mat, so I chose the path to become a teacher so that I could share the teachings with others.

I have now completed 500 hours of teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga which includes Advanced Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy, but I will always continue to learn and deepen my knowledge in this vast and beautiful subject, as they say in yoga ‘you are always a student’.

The name ‘Sole Yoga’ was influenced by my surname’s connection to feet and to highlight our connection to the earth as yoga teaches us to be grounded and to find our true roots. And of course yoga is good for the soul.

I invite you to join me on this journey of yoga as we continue to grow and learn together…

Jo Pedlar - Sole Yoga

What is hatha?

Hatha is an ancient Indian practice from which many yoga styles originate. In Sanskrit, Hatha translates to ‘force’, focusing on postures and breathing techniques, traditionally to channel life force energy (prana or chi) within the body.

My classes involve a set of physical postures ‘asana’, a short breathing practice ‘pranayama’ and a guided relaxation ‘savasana’ to close. Poses are typically practiced with more static posture holds, compared to a vinyasa flow for example, whilst we focus on our breath, fine tune our alignment and find balance in the pose.

Who’s it for?

People practice yoga for lots of different reasons and everyone can benefit from yoga in some way. My classes are suitable for beginners to intermediate. Modifications are offered and poses are practiced in stages. I’ll be encouraging you to listen to your body and choose the right level for you, whilst also challenging yourself as you work to stretch, strengthen and find balance.
